Why We Need Your Letter
As you are hopefully aware, the Saddleback Valley Unified School District is facing its own budget cuts due to declining student enrollment in our district. This issue is separate from the state-wide budget cuts being imposed by the state government. One possible outcome of the district’s budget cuts is the possible closure of two elementary schools in the 2009 school year, followed by two more schools some time after that.
A small committee of concerned parents has formed to try to prevent Santiago from being one of the schools selected for closure. We need your help and there are two ways you can do that!
1) If you are the parent of a child who has “choiced-in” to our school (in other words, Santiago is not your home school) we want to hear from you. We would like to ask that each of you who have “choiced-in” your child to Santiago to please write a letter to the school board telling them what made you choose Santiago over your home school. We want to know what makes Santiago the best possible choice for your child’s education.
2) If you have older children who graduated from Santiago or know of any teachers who used to teach here, spread the word and ask them to write a letter stressing the positive impact Santiago had on their lives.
All the letters we receive will be compiled and presented to the school board at a future meeting.
